THE LODGE OPENS FOR 2022
After a lovely dinner on the evening of the 30th June we opened the lodge fishing season on the East Ranga with great expectation. Early on the we ventured out into a fairly cold and high river to hunt for the elusive spring fish that we love so much. Bright, strong and fresh these fish are battling cold and powerful water. Takes were scarce and gentle. Everyone fished hard and four of the party were rewarded.
The quality of the fish is simply wonderful. Bright and strong. With the water starting at circa 5 degrees when one of the current run of fish is hooked it takes a moment to realise and find strength. Once they wake up though the combination of broad shoulders and strong current mean a good fight is on the cards.
The first fish of the day was had about 9:30 am by Fred B fishing on beat 5. Then down on the junction of beat 2 and 3 Dean M hooked into a lovely slab of a fish and managed to bring it to the net for a quick photo shoot.
In the afternoon Brian L had a stunning cock fish from beat 5 and Axel G had a lovely fish from beat 3. Another amazing supper from our tremendous chef Mia and a few bourbon chasers later the team were up and ready for day 2.
Keep an eye on the news pages for updates on the river as the summer progresses.
