We have a low, clear, cold river. The fishing is mixed between the morning seeing larger heavier flies being used and then smaller flies closer to the top in the afternoon.
Most of the fish being caught are still quite big. We are seeing more and more grilse moving in but they are yet to take in great numbers so the majority of beats are still producing bigger fish.
We are regularly seeing fish in the high teens and early 20s and the percentage of multi sea winter fish so far is around 40%. A staggering statistic.
The lower river now seems to be largely alive with smaller fish on their way up stream. Iain Kirk, whilst guiding on beat 5, saw heaps of fish rushing though.
We have had quite a few warm days in a row but this has done little to change the river temperature. This morning the sky was thick with cloud and a cold wind added to the frustrations.
Despite cold water the team caught 35 fish for the day with another very large fish from beat 1.
We pray for a meaningful dump of rain to change fortunes but as we cant control the weather or how frisky the fish are we just keep fishing hard and enjoying the larger than average fish that are currently running the river.
