AN EPIC AFTERNOON

Yesterday afternoon was a real treat. We met up with Neal D on beat 7 and in his words he was “a bit down in the bows”. Fishing had been quite slow from coloured water and fish were being caught but just not on Neal’s beat.

We all encouraged Neal to have another go in Skollatangi. Only a few casts in a stunning 15lbs fish took hold. We all know that the first fish after a drought is very important. Neal was firm but careful and you could see a level of fear on his face. Once landed the confidence was up and Neal went straight in and took another.

This time it was about 13lbs and fought a great deal harder. Every time it looked beaten it took another long run down the pool into the faster V. Neal, not to be out done, fought back and it was soon in the net.

As luck would have it there was time for just one more and another silver bright fish was safely landed. Then it was time to head back to the lodge for a delicious dinner and watch the sky go mad.
