THOSE WHO DARE

We had a great end to July and the teams ariving into early August came with great enthusiasm. We had a crack team in first with top performances from Rob O and Gareth J. It was great to welcome Paul C and old friend Stephen C to East Ranga.

One thing that has been a constant battle this season has been the cold wind. Just as we expect a bit of surface fishing and lighter presentation we seemed to recieve another bout of cold wind. The take away form this season will be what happened to summer.

Despite strong winds fishing was brisk. A good number of fresh sea liced fish ran in on every tide meaning the lower beats fished well and beat 6 started to really come into it’s own. John and Sarah B had a really successful time and it was a pleasure to meet their friends.

The next few groups had good fishing when the water temperature warmed up a little. It was great to see old faces with Jeff and Andy do so well by thinking out of the box and persisting where others had hidden. A regular repeat team of three generations came from a spectacular visit to the Afallal and fished hard at East.

Father and son Brendon and Dan E had a wonderful trip with great fishing including a lovely multi sea winter fish from Pedros for Dan. Brendon hooked a lovely fish on beat 9 also but lost it at the net.

Andreas W and Manuel P had a wonderful 6 days with a good number of fish and Andreas catching many on his split cane and single handed rods.

Whilst the number of multi sea winter fish landed has certainly been down on last year it is clear that the fish that have returned both grilse and salmon have been strong and healthy with a strong sense of fight.
